Hey there, I’m Courtney — but most people online know me as Swavy Curly Courtney.
If you had told me back in 2018 that discovering my natural waves and curls would change the entire trajectory of my life, I probably would’ve laughed. At the time, I was just a tired mom trying to figure out why my hair always felt frizzy, flat, and impossible to style. What I didn’t realize was that my “unruly” hair wasn’t broken — it was simply misunderstood. Beneath the frizz was a head full of waves and curls, patiently waiting to be embraced.
That single realization opened a door that would transform not only how I saw my hair, but how I saw myself. I dove into learning everything I could about curls — the science, the products, the techniques, the mindset — and I started sharing what I was learning online. What began as a little YouTube channel soon became a thriving community of women discovering the same truth I had: that their hair wasn’t a problem to fix, but a reflection of how they were fearfully and wonderfully made.
Over the last seven years, I’ve had the honor of helping thousands of women all over the world fall in love with their natural texture — through tutorials, product guides, one-on-one coaching, and a whole lot of real talk. Together we’ve laughed through the learning curves, cried over the confidence breakthroughs, and celebrated the freedom that comes when you stop fighting your hair and start embracing it.
But here’s the thing about passion — it keeps evolving.
After years of pouring my heart into online education, I started to feel a stirring. It wasn’t burnout (though I’ve walked through that too). It was a deep desire to take everything I’d learned and bring it off the screen — to serve real people, face-to-face. To hold the scissors, listen to their stories, and help them see themselves with new eyes.
So this year, I took a leap of faith and enrolled in cosmetology school.
That decision has reignited my love for the beauty industry in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Every day in school, I’m reminded that education never ends — that humility, curiosity, and excellence go hand in hand. And somewhere between the mannequin heads, late-night studying, and my first perfect curly cut, I realized this is what I was made for: to bridge the gap between professional cosmetology and authentic, curl-specific care.
Now I’m building the next chapter — bringing my years of digital education, my love for teaching, and my hands-on training together right here in my hometown of Abilene, Texas. I’ve started cutting curls locally and helping women who once thought they had “straight, frizzy hair” walk out with the bounce, shine, and confidence they never knew was possible. There’s something sacred about that transformation — it’s not just hair. It’s healing.
My goal — whether I’m behind the chair or behind the camera — is to remind every woman that she was designed with intention. That your hair isn’t a flaw or an inconvenience. It’s part of the story God wrote for you — unique, wild, and beautiful in its own way.
I believe beauty isn’t about perfection. It’s about peace. It’s about looking in the mirror and finally seeing yourself the way God sees you — wonderfully made, just as you are.
So whether you’re just beginning your curl journey, deep in the trial-and-error phase, or sitting in my chair ready for your first curly cut, my hope is that you leave here inspired — not just to care for your hair, but to care for yourself with grace.
Because this is bigger than hair. It’s about freedom.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about knowing that you were created on purpose, for a purpose — waves, curls, and all.
Welcome, friend. I’m so glad you’re here.
